A thought.... someone might know someone. I'm looking for a good Finishing Worker - amplas (sanding) wood-stain, varnish for my boat interior. So a good furniture guy would probably be best.... Orang Jepera most likely The deal would be a contract... I'd fly him to Sulawesi, house him feed him and pay him.. wen the job's done - I'd return him

If you are looking for someone to do your interiors on that (Green!) boat I have 2 suggestions for specialists: 1) go to the center of furniture making in Java and hire a couple of fellas there: or 2) come here and I'll run you around the guys I know in Mas by Ubud that do that sort of thing on all the "naked" furniture that they import from Java (see 1.) Can't believe you haven't got a guy in Sulawesi that can do what you are after?

Can't help with your request but I follow the adventures of VEGA.....a 120 year Norwegian built wooden yacht that sails the archipelago delivering stuff to remote areas. Historic Vessel VEGA One of their newsletters contain the following info which you may find useful....BTW...VEGA has a green bulwark stripe and red sails...very 'fetching'..:icon_e_biggrin: The water temperatures in Serangan Bay range between 30-32 degrees C all year round. The bay is alive with growth. Sadly the last paint we used, although top of the line from a well-known New Zealand company, failed badly after only a few months there. In an attempt to avoid this happening again we contacted several of the major paint companies to ask their advice on the best paint to use for these waters and on an old wooden boat. We made it very clear that protection against woodworm was our top priority. Nippon paints did not even answer us. International suggested yacht paint basically intended for fiberglass and steel boats. Hempel suggested two of their paints and Jotun suggested Sea Quantum Plus. Of the above only Jotun would actually talk to us about woodworms and wood protection. The other companies dodged the question either by avoiding it completely or by giving vague answers. Far from dodging the question, Jotun sent Mr. Liliek Nurhadi, one of their top technical experts, all the way from Jakarta to work with us first hand on a solution, and together with Mr. Hendra Duna they created a custom paint schedule designed to protect Vega. They also helped with a lot of good tips and tricks on how to do a long lasting paint job. As a result our next bottom job will be with Jotun Sea Quantum Plus, although they are now advising us to try the newer Sea Quantum Static that is specifically designed for slow moving, long lay-up, vessels in hot waters.

Really don't know if this is what your after but I used Aji Gallery for all our furniture in our 3 bed house when we arrived. Aji Gallery JL Tongkubon Perahu No101 Kerobokan Bali. just east, same side as jail entrance. Ph. +62 361 3178711 Aji Gallery Most of the sanding, then staining was done to our color, but nothing was actually varnished. His names Harry and speaks good English and mention David and Ita and get friendly...all helps. You might want a tour round his factory to see what they can do for you.
